چکیده

In this paper, we propose a new evolve-then-filter reduced order model (EF-ROM). This is a regularized ROM (Reg-ROM), which aims to add numerical stabilization to proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) ROMs for convection-dominated flows. We also consider the Leray ROM (L-ROM). These two Reg-ROMs use explicit ROM spatial filtering to smooth (regularize) various terms in the ROMs. Two spatial filters are used: a POD projection onto a POD subspace (Proj) and a POD differential filter (DF). The four RegROM/filter combinations are tested in the numerical simulation of the three-dimensional flow past a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number Re D 1000. Overall, the most accurate Reg-ROM/filter combination is EFROM-DF. Furthermore, the spatial filter has a higher impact on the Reg-ROM than the regularization used. Indeed, the DF generally yields better results than Proj for both the EF-ROM and L-ROM. Finally, the CPU times of the four Reg-ROM/filter combinations are orders of magnitude lower than the CPU time of the DNS. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Numerical Simulation and Parametric Reduced Order Modeling of the Natural Convection of Water-Copper Nanofluid

In this article, a coupled computational framework is presented for the numerical simulation of mass transfer under the effects of natural convection phenomena in a field contains water-copper Nano-fluid. This CFD model is build up based on accurate algorithms for spatial derivatives and time integration. The spatial derivatives have been calculated using first order upwind and second order cen...

Self-similar structure of magnetized ADAFs and CDAFs

We study the effects of a global magnetic field on viscously-rotating and vertically-integrated accretion disks around compact objects using a self-similar treatment. We extend Akizuki & Fukue’s work (2006) by discussing a general magnetic field with three components (r, φ, z) in advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs). We also investigate the effects of a global magnetic field on flows wit...

Extension Ability of Reduced Order Model of Unsteady Incompressible Flows Using a Combination of POD and Fourier Modes

In this article, an improved reduced order modelling approach, based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method, is presented. After projecting the governing equations of flow dynamics along the POD modes, a dynamical system was obtained. Normally, the classical reduced order models do not predict accurate time variations of flow variables due to some reasons. The response of the dynam...

Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) Method for Convection-Diffusion Problems

Due to the very general nature of the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method, it is very easy and natural to introduce the upwinding concept (even in multidimensional cases) in the MLPG method, in order to deal with convection-dominated flows. In this paper, several upwinding schemes are proposed, and applied to solve steady convectiondiffusion problems, in one and two dimensions. Even fo...

Three-dimensional Mhd Simulations of Radiatively Inefficient Accretion Flows

We present three-dimensional MHD simulations of rotating radiatively inefficient accretion flows onto black holes. We continuously inject magnetized matter into the computational domain near the outer boundary and run the calculations long enough for the resulting accretion flow to reach a quasi-steady state. We have studied two limiting cases for the geometry of the injected magnetic field: pu...
